Established in 1974, Medical University - Pleven is one of the top five medical universities in Bulgaria. Today, it boasts state-of-the-art educational and therapeutic facilities, a pre-clinical base, a university hospital with over 1000 beds, and specialized clinics and research units equipped with modern technology. These resources are used to provide patient care, train students and physicians, and conduct research.

Medical University - Pleven offers all necessary departments for higher medical education and has graduated over 6,000 students from 30+ countries. The current number of students is 2,044, with 519 studying Medicine in English. In the 2014/2015 academic year, 163 international students from 25 countries were admitted, with the largest group being citizens of Great Britain. The international community includes students from diverse countries such as USA, Japan, and Nigeria. Additionally, 835 physicians from Bulgaria and abroad are taking postgraduate courses at specialized clinics within the University Hospital
